I will be working 36+ hours a week for a lawyer at the human rights office in Accra M-F. I will also be staying with a local family and would like to be respectful to potential curfews. What I want to know is how likely travel time to and from Mole National Park, Kakum, Volta, Ankasa, slave forts at Cape Coast and Elmina, etc. will be when I only have Saturdays and Sundays to leave Accra. I've also heard that it becomes more difficult to travel on Sundays. Are the parks even open on Sundays…

Ok, so I was denied my tourist visa the first time around. Now I'm preparing to reapply. I'm going in armed with far too much information and a prayer.

This is where I need the advice: when I was rejected, I asked the woman what can I do now? She told me to reapply at a different office. Ok, but what do I tell them when asked have I ever been denied (it's on the form!). She said lie, don't tell. Ummmm, that makes me nervous.

What to do, what to do...

Does anyone have any advice how to go about finding a short term let in Accra that you can rent month to month - for a reasonable price? Looking to move asap. Realise many places usually want a big deposit upfront but we are only planning to stay 2/3 months.

Alternatively does anyone have any recommendations of long stay hostels/hotels that have a kitchen/living space included?

Many thanks
Ali

I just traveled overland from Cote d'Ivoire to Accra and caught a flight out of Accra. This was my first time in Ghana, and although I had wanted to pass through leisurely, checking out the coast, in the end a work-related problem forced me to head straight through to Accra and fly out the next day.
Right now, Ghana has quite a lot of displaced Ivorians. We passed a UNHCR tent camp along the way. The way this effects travelers is that hotels are very full and some have increased their rates. My…

Hello,

I've lost my camera and I desperately need a new one. I am a journalist and can't really do my job without a decent digital camera or SLR, but the prices for cameras in Accra are CRAZY!!
I'm in Ghana for three more months, so I don't want to bother ordering something online and waiting for the shipping etc.. but if anyone in Accra knows a good place to get a decent camera for cheap I'd love to know where. OR EVEN BETTER- if any travellers/ expats are willing to sell me there used camera…

Has anyone volunteered with the African Centre for Peace Building (AFCOPB) in Ghana?
I would like to volunteer with them this summer, so any advice or info on your experience with them would be much appreciated.

I'm heading back to Ghana in May and am trying to sort out my visa. Did everything I have always done for my visa but seems they've now added a new twist. I need to get email confirmation from the addresses provided. Of course, neither guest house has email or fax and I certainly can't talk them into using their own money to go to a cafe to email me the confirmation.

So I ask: can anyone suggest 2 hotels/guest house that I could email and get an email confirmation without having to also…

I will be in Ghana for 3 months this summer doing an internship at University of Ghana, Legon. I'm trying to decide if I should live on campus in the International Student's Hostel or live somewhere in the city, I heard Asylum Downs neighborhood is a nice area. Things I am considering:
- I want to spend about $500-600 a month and have my own room
- I'd like to be somewhere where there are fellow travelers, students, volunteers, etc to meet
- I'd like to be close enough to the city to be able to…
