Does any one have any recommendations / experience in Accra of clean single room that is 60 cedis or less? I just want to cross check with the older information in my LP guide. Many thanks!

Does anyone have any advice to exchange some money to cedis at the Accra airport upon arrival? Is the rates reasonable?

I don't want to exchange a lot, just enough to get a taxi to the centre.

I'm trying to plan an overland trip to West Africa and i'm thinking of flying back to the UK from Ghana. However, searching for a one way ticket is proving a bit problematic on the internet as most airlines seem to have London as the start destination on their websites. Also, there doesn't appear to be a Ghana International Airlines in operation any more. It looks like a number of airlines fly to the UK via european stop-offs, though BA and Virgin seem to fly direct but at a premium…

We are going to Accra in late december. We are looking for a hotel and has narrowed it down to New Haven or Ampax. Does anybody know anything about these two hotels? Quiet is essential. New Haven has a courtyard but the rooms looks worn down and dark. Apax has nice rooms, but there does not seem to be any places to sit and relax outside.

Any hints and ideas?

I was just refused a visa for Ghana at the embassy in Lome. Knowing of the change in the visa rules I decided to try anyway because I met a couple in a similar situation who was successful in Bamako. I left my home country (South Africa) in April 2010, long before the visa rule changes on Jan 1, 2011, to travel overland around Africa.

I just wanted to share my boyfriend and I’s experience re extending our tourist visas in Ghana.

We bought our visa at the Ghana High Commission in the UK. It was sold under the guise of being a ‘three month visa’. From what I remember the choice was either that or a six month multiple entry (which was a lot more expensive). As we were due to stay in Ghana for 3 months and 7 days we asked what we should do and were told to apply for a visa extension for the last week once we arrived.
