Thank you all for your frank posts about Ghana.
After reading all the responses. We have decided to stay with family in Capecoast.
My question is, are there grocery stores there that we can buy bottle water, food the kids, baby food, and any kind of foreign foods for my husband, since my hubby and kids are not from ghana.

-also what is the estimated drive from accra to capecoast on a weekday mornning at 9am?
many thanks again.

I'll be travelling to Ghana next May with a small group--6-8. Any suggestions for a tour company, etc. that could take us around? We'll start in Accra--we have a good line on accommodations, etc., there, but not for moving beyond. I would say we will be in the budget traveler category--willing to pay about $20usd for rooms.
However, I have no clue on how to locate a local guide/tour company. Any words of wisdom are appreciated.

I keep them on me, in pouches under clothes or special pockets I have sewn in on the inside of my clothes.

Hello all,

I am flying into Ghana at the beginning of November and plan to spend just under a month there (possibly sidetracking to Benin/Togo) before heading to Mali and then Senegal. I am a 27 year old British female who has just finished 4 months traveling in East/South Africa. If anyone else is going to be around Ghana at that time and would like to meet up for a coffee and possibly travel together then PM me.

To anyone who is in Accra or who will be in Accra. I was a teacher at Accra High School many years ago. I have no photos from that time and in my situation will probably never make it back to Ghana. Possibly someone with a digital camera could take a couple of photos of Accra High School and send them to me. Recently I found Ahisco using Google Earth. It is located north of Castle Road, east of Kanda High Road, just south of Ridge Street, actually near the intersection of Ridge and Dr…

I will be independently travelling through Ghana from Burkina Faso down to Accra and the Ghanaian coast and am looking to stop off to visit the Mole National Park en route.

It seems that getting there by bus is a bit of a pain and sometimes the place is full.

Does anyone have any tips about comfortably and reliably visiting the park in November and ideally how long should a visit be?

Many thanks for any tips!

I discovered this fairly long list of ghana-related NGOs that might be of use to someone researching volunteer placements:

http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/directory/cat30.html

click on 'foreign' or 'local'.

I can't vouch for any of these but perhaps you'll find some alternatives to the bigger names in the business.

It goes without saying: take care paying any money in advance - most will happily take your money once in Ghana.
