I am planning a school trip for mid-July next year to the south of Ghana, unfortunately this is the only time of year that my school allows us to go now. I ran this trip in Feb of this year and the great weather allowed us to eat outside everywhere we travelled. From research I'm aware that this is the end of the rainy season but it's July or nothing. Could anyone tell me how rainy it is and whether the rain would ruin any visits to the beaches? (we have several planned days on the beach) Would it mean having to eat indoors all the time etc? Do the days tend to be overcast or is there some sunshine too? Looking at the current forecast for this week thunderstorms are on the cards - at what point do these tend to lessen? Does mid to late July bring any improvements?

I'd be really grateful to hear from anyone who lives in southern Ghana or anyone who has experienced July weather on several occasions. We won't be heading any further north than Akosombo.

Thanks very much,
Claire

I've been to Ghana several times in July and this has by far been my favourite time to visit. The rain is not too bad, it doesn't necessarily rain everyday and when it does its often only for a short period of time. The temperature is far more bearable at this time of year, the countryside is much greener and its mango season. I would definately recommend going at this time, it may be a bit overcast but its certainly still hot enough to be swimming in the sea.

I've also visited Ghana several times in July and it is normally fine. But this year so far it is not. Rain every day--I've barely been outside; flooding in the western part of the country--I traveled from Half-Assini to Accra a few days ago and it looked like a swamp virtually the entire journey. I do think this weather is exceptional but be advised.
