Other than confirming with the embassy that everything is in order, I guess about the only thing you can do is be patient.

A couple years ago I applied three or so weeks in advance for a visa for a trip I was taking. On the day of my 3:00pm flight the visa arrived by mail at 10am. I was more than a bit annoyed and anxious, but all's well that ends well.

Good luck.

Ah, so the Ghanaian embassy has not improved since 2004!! They did the same to me, I think I received the visa one day before I was due to leave. So don't worry too much. Guess calling can't hurt, but normally they should send your visa in time.

They've done this to me in the USA repeatedly: no matter how much time I leave in advance, the visa comes at the last possible minute. I've started using a visa service which reliably hand-delivers and tracks my passport. I find the ridiculous expense well worth the worry it eliminates.

Good luck!

I dont think youve improved your knowledge on visa issues either since 2004!

Dont you also think he/she should pop in their bloody office and grab it as he/she paid for it! Youre confusing a visa issuing authority with Amazon.com on which you buy a product and the e-tailer should deliver it to you within the agreed terms and conditions. Conversely, when you apply for a visa (irrespective of which consulate) there are no agreements and terms set, and whatever they tell you at the time of submission of your application must be understood only as indicative, and you totally remain at the mercy of their discretionary support and timeframe. And when you make a payment to the issuing authority it does not mean you`re buying a visa, but rather applying for permission to enter their home country and paying a fee (not a price) for processing your application.

Stress and uncertainty is the price people pay unnecessarily when they book a flight without securing a visa in the first place.

Keep ringing them and I hope things will work in your favour.

Good luck.

thank you all for responding! it has made me a bit more hopeful. it has still not arrived and i have tried calling the embassy constantly between opening hours but still no answer! so i am keeping my fingers crossed it will arrive and i shall keep calling!
does anyone think it would be worth going to London to get it? the website and phone lines all say you need an appointment so i'm not sure its worth it as its a two hour journey (probably a bit more) for me.

thanks again x

I would still hold on until Saturday, but would definitely go and knock on their door on Monday the 5th early in the morning. And reminding them that your departure is actually scheduled on the following day would justify your unexpected visit and would put them in the obligation to either process it or return your passport to you.

Hope you won`t need to travel to London for the sake of that.

Actually, Ghana requires that you have a valid return ticket prior to applying for the visa, so the best way to avoid losing out is to check the policies of the airlines. I confirmed with my airline that should my visa not be processed for whatever reason, I can reschedule without having to forfeit the entire purchase price. I also had to purchase my tickets from the airline directly rather than a travel agent or site--it cost a few extra dollars but the peace of mind seems worth it.

Hope it all worked out...today's the day I guess.
