Hi everyone
Hopefully should be in Ghana in mid November and I'm just sorting my visa out now.Just a few little questions if anyone can help:-
1 On the visa application it asks for 2 references, are these absolutely neccesary or would I need to book a hotel for the first night of my stay?

2 It asks on the visa application for details of financial means, what is considered reasonable?

3 I could be arriving in Accra late evening could anyone recomend a hotel for the first night, possibly with transfers.Somewhere central?and safe? where I might be able to nip out for a couple of beers on arrival.

4Getting to Mole National Park.Has anyone flown to Tamale recently(what was the damage?).Whats the best way to contact the Motel to make a reservation.
Thanks a lot

Dave

  1. Just put the address of your country's embassy in Accra, andfor the second, put the name of a hotel, any hotel will do, along with the address.

  2. I don't know. If you can show you have at least a few thousand dollars or the equivalent then you'll have no problem.

3, Paloma Hotel is nice, it's around $80 dollars a night; has several restaurants and a British-style pub, and is centrally located (on Ring Road). Don't know about transfers.

  1. Don't know.

  1. Agree with #1 on references, just put down any hotel, no one will check
  2. I came overland from BF and no one asked but a couple of hundred bucks and a credit card will do
  3. I stayed at the Hotel President $25 if I remember right. Very safe. Clean. Plenty of hot water. The manager speaks perfect English and likes to talk about American politics. No bar. Go out of the hotel, turn right, go down the hill and there are a couple of gin mills. None of the taxi drivers in Accra know where anything is. True. There is another hotel owned by the president of Ghana, very posh, and they kept taking me there
  4. Tried to fly the other way, from Tamale to Accra, after going to the park. There were 2 flights on different airlines and they both left at the same time! Couldn't make it work so ended up taking the bus. They were very expensive $250 I think. All internal flights in West Africa are expensive.
The only place I've ever felt threatened in Africa, so far, was in the Jamestown section of Accra down by the lighthouse.
