Hey!

If I'm an American citizen, currently in Ghana on a multiple-entry tourist visa, how easy is it to travel to Lome, Togo for the weekend? Can I get a visa at the border and how much would it cost? How do I get to the border from Accra? I know there are STC buses that run from Accra to the border town of Aflao, but I'm not sure if I can make those times - are there shared taxis one could take instead and if so where in Accra do you get them?

And any advice on where to stay/what to do in Lome would also be appreciate!

Thanks!

Yes, they normally issue short-term visas at the border, although I have not checked the position for US citizens. And I'm sure the run to Aflao (and on to Lome) is served by Tro-tros, so ask someone local where to get them.

Check the posts about Togo and Benin: a very friendly person based in Lome posted about rents and housing there, and offered help to people passing through. His/her family will be in Accra in early August, so you might be able to meet up there and swap knowledge.

You could even buy the Togo chapter from the Lonely Planet guidebook: download it from this site for about a dollar!

from accra you can get to afloa by bus share taxi or just hire your own taxi it's easy to get there I would use tro tro.

once in afloa exit from Ghana get your stamp then walk accros to togo side stop and fill out the standard visa one page bring your own pen no photo req 15000.00 cfa note you will need cfa lots of money changers at the border. don't ask for a receipt or any thing because the guy sticks it right into his pocket. this take a few minutes its a couple of differnt stamps and he signs it take up a page.

now you will walk down the strairs and a couple other guys are sitting at a table you will need to set your bag on it now you will be asked for 2000.00 cfa's about 5 bucks 1usd = 460 cfa

then that it now where are you going? hop on any of the moto's around if you need a lift

on the way out you will need to pay 2000.00 cfa to get the exit stamp. call it whatever you like departure tax bribe it all goes right in there pockets. some people on here brag about never paying bribes to me it's not worth the hassle.
