Hello,

I am planning to pick up my Nigeria visa in Ghana and haven't found any new topic on it. I read that there had been some problems getting one after the elections this year.

I travel on a german passport and by bicycle.

Is it as easy as before again? has anyone applied for one recently?

What documents do you need?

thanks

Hi!
We got ours in Accra, in July with lots of paperwork but no big problems. They asked for a letter of introducion from our embassie (we re portuguese) lots of photocopies and 136 dollares, and only dollares! Took us 14 days in Accara to have in our hands!

By the way, we came by car from Lisbon and they didn t want to give us the Ganian visa in Burkina Faso embassie! Only for residents (something new just a couple of weeks before they changed). We manage with a very polite letter to the embassador...and lot s of patience! I dont know if you have it already. And burkina Faso cost 150€ if you do it on the border (before was 20 € :) Everything is changes in few months!

I have all the detais of VIsas and other tips in our site (this link for Nigeria Togo and Benin)

Instead of starting a new topic, i figured posting my question in this one would suffice.

I´m travelling from Ghana through Togo, Benin, Nigeria to Cameroon and hopefully onwards. Almost in all these countries I have connections and arranging visas for them shouldn't be a huge issue.

However, I´m worried about the Nigerian one. I do not have any contacts there so getting a letter of invitation will be hard. I will be applying for the visa in Accra soon and I am wondering if you have any advice. What paperwork should I be able to provide? Can I also book a hotel in Lagos and get a letter of recommendation through them to apply for the visa?

Hlcarneiro didn't seem to need a letter of invitation from inside Nigeria which makes everything more confusing for me, is it not obligatory anymore?

Any advice is greatly appreciated,

RDK

I travel on a British passport and have never had an issue getting a Nigerian visa in Ghana. I will qualify that by saying I have a residents permit and travel for work so have no issues with letters of invitation or the like BUT the key to getting this or any other visa whilst in Ghana, is, in my opinion to use an expert to do it for you! There are a number of protocols companies who know how to go about it, what paperwork you'll need and any extra information you can give to help speed/facilitate the process. I strongly recommend using one of these - I think any travel agent here would be able to give you the names of some good ones. It generally costs around GHC50 which is well worth it IMO - if only for cutting out the hassle and hours you'd otherwise waste waiting to get the visa sorted!

I was in Ghana this July and wanted to get a Nigerian visa and was told by the embassy it wasn't possible unless you have a residents permit.... I couldn't be bothered (or afford) the hassle of getting one. THey will prob tell u the same, in which case you'll need to pay some dash if you wanna go! good luck... was the only downside of my trip.. I really wanted to go!

Cheers,
Sam

Hey Sam!

You are absolutely right, in fact I wrote a post of it on my blog a couple of weeks ago (http://rdktravels.wordpress.com/2011/10/25/nigerian-visa-denial/). Even with dash I couldn't do it. I will try to apply for one again in Cotonou where I will be this monday. With help from my contact and my embassy in Nigeria I should be able to succesfully apply for a visitors pass which could be changed into a full tourist visa once in Lagos (the latter probably requiring some dash).

Wish me luck!
