Hi

We are going to Accra in late december. We are looking for a hotel and has narrowed it down to New Haven or Ampax. Does anybody know anything about these two hotels? Quiet is essential. New Haven has a courtyard but the rooms looks worn down and dark. Apax has nice rooms, but there does not seem to be any places to sit and relax outside.

Any hints and ideas?

I stayed at New Haven the first night I got to Accra. It was nothing special to be honest. Yeah there is a courtyard but it has plastic chairs etc. Go for the one with the nicer rooms (New Haven's were fine and clean, just nothing special for the money) and then maybe find a restaurant/bar/cafe to sit in instead.

I've stayed a single night at New Haven a couple of years ago and it was OK - good value for the money. The courtyard was pretty good too.

My fav in Accra is St. George's Hotel in Adabraka, a good 10 minute walk south from the Circle. No courtyard or restaurant but several spots very close.

It's priced like New Haven, can't say one is better than the other.There's a school near St. Georges so you'll hear the children in the morning + there's usually some pretty loud preaching in the evening. But hey, it's part of experiencing Africa ;-)

@Jesper
Sounds nice with Sct. George´s . We would like to write to them to book. Do you know if they have an email adress? I can´t find any?

I don't think there's a computer in the hotel; it's a small place with maybe 8 rooms. The staff is nice and helpful though the tall guy is very busy getting payment. Please dash the old night watch a little if you come home late; he's both very nice and very poor.

Don't expect any luxury but OK value for the money. Electricity and water was sometimes off and they don't have a generator but for water you can always have the large bucket filled.

Room with a/c (kinda noisy) were 30 Cedis a year ago, with fan 25 Cedis. I booked by phone a few days before I arrived. Phone according to Bradt 030 2224699/2220935

Google map will show the location.
