Hi,
Going to Ghana in December. Visa is the question. LP mentions the possibility of getting the tourist visa on arrival at Accra airport.
Anybody who knows anything on this?
Or should I fix my visa before?, I am swedish citizen so that would mean I send my passport to Denmark. I would rather avoid sending the passport to another country.

Many thanks for your answer!
Erik

I don't think it's a possibility, I'm fairly certain you'll need one and as I said on another thread, check-in at the airport in Europe might be your first problem if you don't have one!

Officially you have to have your visa in advance. But a colleague of mine had recently to travel on short notice to Ghana without having the time to apply for the visa. She explained to the immigration officer the circumstances and got her visa at the airport.

But if you still have the time to apply for the visa, I'd recommend to send your passport to the embassy. You may use a visa service who take over insurance of the passport, although this raises the costs, of course.

It's possible, but not advisable. It cost 100USD at the airport, normal visa in Europe is about 20-30usd. You can get into two problems at the airport:1st they will not let you pass check in since they may not know it's possible to get visa at Kotoka int. airport. 2nd the customs will refuce to give you visa due to some reasons. If you decide to travel without it than be sure you have enough money to pay extra fees (bribes) in case of problems. There is also something like invitation letter you need to bring along. You also have to know how to talk with the customs - be polite, make some fun, generaly create a good atmospere in the room.
There is also possibility No3, but for this you must get a good friend in Ghana who will organize the visa through Ministry of foreign affairs. They will issue a paper that you have to bring along and at the airport exchange for a real visa - stamp in the passport. It cost the same 100USD. This is normally used by companies when they bring their guests, technicians etc.
So from my experience I would recommend to make visa in Europe. The same time you can make multiple entry for almost the same money.
