Hi,

I am travelling from Senegal to Burkina to Ghana and it seems that cash in the form of Euros (Senegal and Burkina) and USD/Euros/Sterling for Ghana is the way to go.

I am right in thinking that travellers cheques are fairly useless in all three countries and the only other secure way of accessing money is via ATMs as and when I find them? Can I draw money over the counter with cards to in a bank?

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Euros are the best way to go for Senegal & Burkina, it's pegged to CFA & easy to exchange. In Ghana I think pounds or US$ might be as easy as euros ...

Forget travellers cheques, absolute nightmare ... never use cards in Africa so don't really know but saw a fair few ATM's in Ghana. However I do know that visa is king in W.Africa, not mastercard!

Cards or visa as stated above is accepted in Burkina and Ghana, plenty of ATMs in ouaga which worked out fine for me, i dont think there was an ATM in Gorom, i think one in Dori but cant swear by it, but there were in Bobo and again no problems. Ghana lived on ATMs and in 5 months had no problems, actually used visa all over africa for 10 months and all ok. Mastercard is accepted in ghana but not so common, Barclays is the main bank. ssavage
