Hi folks! Thanks for your great information on my first question . (You can read it for some background on my trip if you'd like.)

So, I'm going to be in Wa for two days this March. I'm looking at neighboring places - Wechiau, Lawra, Bole - and wondering which (or others) you folks are particularly partial to.

I was considering Wechiau for a night, but it doesn't sound like the accommodation situation is great there ... although I am very curious about these treebound hippo skin platforms they speak of in Bradt. Then Lawra piqued my interest because of the instrument manufacturing - and I'd love to hear some homegrown Ghanaian music! And Bole has a noteworthy mosque, it seems, in a setting which sounds considerably friendlier than Larabanga.

There may be others with similarly low-key but wonderful attractions, or which just have a really nice feel about them. Any opinions on the above or elsewhere? Thanks!

(This trip would be in mid-March, if it makes a difference.)

I spent a few weeks around that area, it was in '08 but I really enjoyed Wechiau and the hippo sanctuary - I stayed in the accommodation there, basic but if you can stay in the hide's I hear it's fantastic

hi there

I visited Wa just for a few days and for work, so didn't see that much. However we did make it to the mosque at Bole and it's well worth a visit - takes only 20 minutes or so to get there as well so it will probably take up not much more than 1.5/2 hours. We got a lot less hassle there than we did when we went to Larabanga. Can't remember the name of the place, but we stayed in what is supposedly the best "corporate" accommodation in Wa - hmm bed bugs and coffee made from polluted water. Would suggest looking for something else!
