It seems that visas for Nigeria can be bought in Bamako but that seems to be in the wrong direction to your trip ... Cameroon I don't know. I will be completely honest & say I am OUT of that mess thanks to a few friends in the right places. However these friends keep telling me that it's easy to get a Nigerian visa, only when an American on the same table one evening chimed in to my defence did they realise the situation. I've been pushing Nigeria for a while & am still pushing hard!

Ghana seem to have taken a stronger stance in regards to being 'resident' & getting a visa. This is also being helped along by senior officials who are approaching immigration with my complaints (with a valid economic reason behind it for Ghana's own economy in aviation/tourism) ... I am waiting as I said.

Having never been to Cameroon - I really can't tell you - so I was wrong on my last post. I had imagined you were doing the 'traditional' west to east crossing of W.Africa ...

Have my fingers & toes crossed for you, if you need help PM me ... no promises though!

Finally managed to get through to the Ghana High Commission after calling about 12 different numbers! Was told I DEFINITELY need to be a resident of the UK to apply for a visa here... wondering if I should try showing up to my appointment and crossing my fingers or just mail my passport off asap to get the ball rolling! She was very adamant on the phone that I MUST be a UK resident :(

Sorry, but I think you have your answer ...

When are you travelling? Are you flying from Ghana?

Hi Kira, amspumkin et al - I hope you all got your visas sorted out.

I am a Canadian National in Europe on a visitors (tourist) visa - and having the same problem acquiring a visa to Ghana from various Ghanian embassys in Europe. They are all quite adamant that they will issue a visa only to those with residency permits.

One loophole i am considering is to head to Senegal (where Canadians don't need a visa) and applying there for a Ghanian visa. The lady at the Ghanian Embassy in Dakar told me that it would be POSSIBLE, and my success would be determined by the opinion of the Consular officer after meeting with me. Does anyone have any thoughts about this?

For me it would be more interesting to hang out in Dakar than in London - so this is probably what i will probably choose...and if it fails - sadly skip Ghana.

Also, if any non-residents had any luck with the Ghanian embassy in London, I would love to hear about it... as this would be far easier.

Good luck and safe travels,

Scott

My success story: having called the embassies in both UK & Australia, both of which were completely adamant that I had to apply in Australia, I decided to cross my fingers & go to the embassy in London. And I got my visa! I might have just got lucky that the guy on the desk I ended up at didn't realise the protocol, but definitely worth going & trying before you post a passport overseas!
