Hi,

Has anyone visited the Akosombo Dam? And would you do it again?

On one hand, I feel that I must visit the largest man-made lake in the world, but on the other it doesn't seem that interesting. And, I would then need to get to Lome from there and it looks tricky on the map.

Is there any other way to take in Lake Volta?

I visited the dam this past July. The dam itself is nothing particularly special but the setting really is quite beautiful.

From Akosombo to Lome shouldn't be too terribly difficult although it's not very direct--leaving from Atimpoku (the village below the dam) you should go to Ho and then get transport to Aflao.

Alternatively you could visit Kpando on the east side of the lake but I have not done so.
Would I visit the dam again? I doubt it--once you've seen it there's really no reason to return.

Been to Akosombo only because a friend drove me there. You wouldn't be missing anything to skip it. The surrounding area is beautiful, but unless you've got other things to do there, I wouldn't go just for that.
