10 days in ghana - what & with WHOM to do a trip ?
hi,

we are a swiss couple travelling (planned, as alternative we are thinking of cameroon) to ghana in october (beginning). as we travel always - we do plan to take a driver/guide and a car (or landcruiser) to explore the country individually. two questions for this:

a) is there anyone out there who has done something like this ? if yes - who knows a reliable company (trust over price) ?
b) if someone has done it - what would be a recommendable itinerary for round 10 days starting from accra? we do NOT want to fly.

and as always - we are very happy for any assistance,

regards

gian

Not sure why you'd want to hire a car/driver...it is very easy and very cheap (and a lot of fun) to get around on public transport. Of course, the busses can be crammed and uncomfortable, but if you don't take marathon bus trips, it's really not bad. Tro tros are everywhere.

Ten days isn't a lot, as there is a lot to see in Ghana. Here is our itinerary, which was for a trip that lasted about two weeks:

  1. Accra
  2. Aburi (Botanical Gardens)
  3. Kpando/Lake Volta
  4. Donkorkrum
  5. Kumasi
  6. Cape Coast
  7. Accra

Here is a link to a company that offers the kind of driver/guide services you are requesting. I have not traveled with them yet, but am in the process of booking a trip for November. So, take it for what its worth.

Another tour operator in Ghana is Easy Track Ghana . They specialize in individual, customized tours within Ghana. There is a Trip Planner on their web site for you to indicate your interests. Then they will send you a tour designed just for you.

In 10 days, you can move through the Volta Region, the Ashanti Region and Cape Coast with personal transportation. Such a distance would not be possible on public transit in that amount of time.

I have travelled with Jolinaiko Ecotours mentioned above and they are a brilliant company to deal with - very professional and will do exactly what you want whether that be accompanying you on tro tros or private car. You can adapt your itinerary en route and the guides are very knowledgeable. They will also stick to your budget. I did a school group trip with them and cannot recommend them enough.
