Hey,

I'd like to tell people about this this rock-hewn church [http://www.eyesushintsatrust.co.uk] which you can see only 60km from Mekele. The church has no frescos, just bare sandstone rock, circular windows and is like most, in a stunning hidden location. The route to it goes out the Lalibela road before turning north to the town of Gijet. The way is freshly signposted and should take 1-2 hours depending on your jeep and driver. If you take a bus (2-3 hrs) then go to Gijet and ask directions…

Much to the confusion of my friends and family I'm keen to travel in Ethiopia in July for four weeks. I'll be travelling on my own- 24 f British.

The LP guide book suggests that Ethiopia is not a popular travel destination but I'm wondering exactly what they mean- will I meet many other travellers during my month? Lots of people, a handful in each town or none at all? Are most people doing the long Cape-Cairo route and just transitting through Ethiopia? Are there hostels where you can meet…

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to Ethiopia this July. Could anyone tell me if it would be possible to travel from ADD to Bahir Dar by bus in one day? I hear different stories about this road. Some say it's paved, other tell me it's not. I'm confused now! Help! :-)

Bale

Hi.

I've recently (April 2008) returned from Ethiopia. This time I fitted in a trip to the Bale region. Here's how I got there and what it was like.

First a map: [http://www.baletrek.com/reach.php]

I took the bus from Addis bus station beside the mercato. The taxi was 30 birr from the Taitu Hotel in the Piazza. The direct bus to Dodola left at 7.00, I recommend getting there for at least 6.30 if not 6.00am. I missed the direct bus and so caught the 8.00am bus to Asassa (not on the enclosed…

I will be travelling back to Ethiopia at the end of the year after making my way up through Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. I intend to cross the border at Moyale and go direct to the south omo (Yabello- Konso- Jinka), would it be possible for me to hire a 4WD vehicle in Jinka, without having to pay for it to come all of the way from Addis and then back again?

TESFA community tourism
Hi,
I'm going to Ethiopia from 20th-30th April and would like to see some of the mountains. Most of the Simien mountain treks are really long or really expensive. The TESFA community tourism trek seems to be highly recommended (see link above). It does advise it's best for more than 1 person. I'm 24, female Scottish traveller.

Is anyone else in Ethiopia around that time and would like to trek with me?
Or is there a different trek I could do in my 10 days that you could…
