I traveled to Lalibela in late February 2008. Both Bradt and LP reviewed Seven Olives favorably, so I reserved a room there over the phone from Addis. Upon arrival at the Seven Olives (airport shuttle -- 40 birr), I and two fellow travelers, all of whom had made reservations, were told that there weren't any rooms. We confirmed with them that they had in fact taken our reservations but they said that other people had decided to stay on, etc. (which is why reservations exist, n'est-ce pas?)…

I'll be traveling sometime soon to pick up my two new children in Addis and am searching for a place to stay. I plan on being in Addis for about one month. I will most likely be traveling alone (except, of course, I'll have my kids, ages two and eight). I'd like to be near their orphanage if at all possible, which is in Mekanisa across from the Vatican embassy and south of Kaldi's. Hi All,

I will be in Addis at the beginning of June and then doing the historical trail up to Axum and Simien mountains and starting to think of how to pack.
What is the day temperature like at that time of year ?.
What is the temperature in the evening ?.
Along the what to pack idea track, I have some shorts which cover the knees , Is it culturally acceptable for men to wear shorts in Ethiopia ?

I'm going to Ethiopia from 29th April and would like to see some of the mountains. For example, the Simien mountain treks. Not expensive.

I am 35, russian traveller and photographer. Speak English, a little - Espanol.

Is anyone else in Ethiopia around that time and would like to trek with me?
Or is there a good trek I could do in my 2 weeks that you could recommend/to join you on?

What's the approximate current exchange rate for GB£, US$ and Euro at Bole and in Addis? Online currency convertors have it at 19Birr/£, 15.2Birr/Euro and 9.5 Birr/US$....

Can GB£ generally be exchanged anywhere that US$ and Euro are exchanged?

I guess what I'm getting at is would there be any advantage to me changing my GB£ to US$ or Euro before I head out to Ethiopia? I'm only going for 3 weeks and will change most if not all of my cash into Birr when I arrive.

I will be travelling with a few others in June/July in Ethiopia. We have time to fit in a single longer trek (5 days) or two shorter treks (2-3 days each) but I am torn as to which to chose out of the simiens, bale, or tefsa. I have heard great things about all of them, but from someone who has been to 1-2 of them, what would you recommend? which are the easiest on the budget? which are the easiest to arrange?

We are a Spanish couple visiting Ethiopia from 25th July to 15th August. We are visiting the South of the country for 12 days, starting on July 26th July from Addis Abeba. We have contacted a travel agency and agree to rent a 4x4 for this part of the itinerary. The price for the car is 90 €/day and would like to share costs.
