I'm planning on travelling from Sudan to Ethiopia, probably around July.

Does anyone know what state the road from Metema to Gonder is likely to be in? Will there be any transport?

Ok, I have a bad report about the Guiders that hang out in front of the Taitu hotel. There is not one of them who is good. All the rasta guys with big dreads will follow you around everywhere and tell you how they want to go to school so bad and they actually have a few sponsors who send them money and they never go to school. They blow it on booze and girls and laugh about the suckers they got the money from.

Then if your invited to a party or a bar. Watch out for the bottle of Remy Martin…

A friend and I will be arriving at 1 AM into Addis Ababa. We have plans for the next few weeks but that first night...

Should we arrange in advance for a ride to a hotel? How much should we pay for a taxi?

Will it be dangerous at that time of night in the city?

Could anyone recommend a simple, cheap place to stay that night?

Anyone interested in visiting the danakil region end of march, beginning of april 2009?? 27march 4april to be precise. There are different tours available (all rather pricey when travelling alone) to the dallol, the vulcano, lake affar, salt pans etc

Hey, I'm hoping to join up with other travellers for some hiking. I'm looking at Tesfa trek south of Lalibela in early March, Simien Mtns from Gondor in mid-March and maybe the Bale Mtns in late March. I know very little about the latter and am trying to read other posts now (with super slow net speeds). Any takers?

I found Thortree very useful when planning my journey in Ethiopia. Especially two recent reports and updates were useful. Here is my feedback in return.

I chose Ethiopia for my travel destination as I heard that it was a beautiful country offering historical sights and hospitality. Well, my expectations were not completely filled.
