Hi,

last week I returned from a longer expedition to Bale Mountains, and am curious if someone had the same experience of huge increase of prices, too. This was my second trip. The first was in February-March 2012. This time I addressed the same people who were working for me in 2012 because the did a great job. But now I was surprised in a bad sense. So I would like to find out if it was because I was a returning customer or because the "new" prices are just so.

Here is a comparison (per…

Hey everyone,

it might be a bit last minute, but I will hike from the 23rd of Jan from Dodola for about 5-6 days to Adaba. Anyone doing the same and interested in splitting the costs of the obligatory guide?

I'm 23 years old, female and from Europe.

Then please get in contact :)

Hello people,
It looks like I might just make it to Ethiopia this year in July or August. Im trying to figure out if it's possible to see Lalibela, Bahir Dar and Tigray in only 8 days (flying between stops). I like to photograph the churches and pilgrims and hang out in markets and just aimlessly explore and do as much or as little as I want to.
August being the rainy season, is Bahir Dar and the Blue Nile falls worth visiting? Most reports I've read seems to say it's disappointing.
I think I…

Hi,

I am interested in camel markets in Ethiopia. Does anybody know about camel markets apart from the one in Bati which is probably the most-known in the country? I am especially interested in camel markets in the North and East of the country which are just very few visited by tourists.
Thanks for your help :)

We spent 4 days with Negasi's WORLD SUN ETHIOPIA TOURS in the Danakil Depression (400 USD per person). I will not go into why the Danakil is worth a visit, if you've done your research you will know why. I do however need to sing the praises for this tour operator. Negasi speaks 5 languages (including Hebrew!) and has the Danakil region down to a doddle. His operation is very professional (yet maintains a comfortably informal atmosphere) and restricts his groups to 12 people (other operators may…

Hello!

I've been starting to think about a trip to Ethiopia. It won't be for a good while yet, so I'm still very much in the early stages of planning. I've done a lot of reading already here on Thorn Tree and elsewhere, and just recently ordered the Bradt guidebook and it's only solidified my hopes to visit. The one thing I can't get an idea around is how much it would cost. I'm generally a pretty budget traveler; I tend to stay in cheaper accommodation, eat cheaply, don't do too many expensive…
