My wife and I have recently returned from this holiday in ethiopia. thanks for Jeremy manager of SOS(save our soul local community) for your best recommendation. This was our first time with local and must say we had a wonderful holiday. Thank you.
The organization was excellent, the trips out superb ( especially the karo village over night with no shower) all under the care and guidance of our excellent Tour Manager - lungo. What a gem. he was caring, funny, precise with details and very…
Hi, I'm flying to Lalibela tomorrow 24 March and will spend 4 days there before going to Gonder. I'm trying to find others to join a tour 2-3 days in the Simien mountains and/or a 3-4 day tour in Danakil. I guess Danakil wld be around 2 April if I go to the Simien mtns but I'm relatively flexible. Lots of tour operators don't seem to have groups at the moment so hopefully someone out there knows of something I can join and spread the cost.
Thanks
Last December I used the service of this excellent driver called Lalo during a visit to the Omo valley in Ethiopia. He is extremely friendly, reliable, always calm, smiling, and humorous so it's not only a good driver full of tips and advice but also a good travel companion. He speaks very good English, several of the local languages, and some French. His service is personnalised and fairly priced. I warmly recommend contacting him for a trip in southern Ethiopia and will certainly contact him…
The Tigray region with it's amazing landscapes and surprising rock hewn churches was one of the highlights of my trip in Ethiopia. I spent several days with my guide, Fisseha Tsegay, and when we reached the end of our journey I really wished we had more time to spend together. He picked me up in Axum and took me to Gheralta area visiting the Debre Damo Monastery on the way. After visiting the area for several days he drove me to Mekele for me to catch a flight to southern Ethiopia. He felt like…
Hi everyone!
I'm flying into Gondar on the morning of Thu Apr 9, and leaving in the morning of Mon Apr 13. Looking to do a 3 or 4-day hike in Simien mountains in between. I'm a relatively (not extremely) experienced hiker, so up for about 8h of trekking a day.
Will anyone be around for these dates? I've understood it's best to share the guide/cook/bodyguard costs with others. Also, very happy to take suggestions for guides etc!
Thanks,
Nick
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good mid-range priced hotel in Axum?
I will be travelling to Ethiopia in November 2015. I plan to do a 5 day trek in the Simien Mountains. I will probably rent most of the camping gear there, rather than bring my own. I am wondering whether it is best to make all the arrangements (rent gear, hire guide and scout, etc.) through a tour operator in Gonder or through the Park Office (or the Simien Park Hotel) in Debark? I will need to return to Gonder after the trek to catch a flight, so I thought it might make more sense to make…
the usual season to visit danakil depression is over.following this i want to raise crucial question that is whither visitors are more interested in nature or culture? this days. and whats the latest trends of visitors preference? what are the consumers view points?
Hey Folks,
I will be traveling to Ethiopia for about 2 months from May-July. I am wondering if anyone has any advice through some experience traveling the country solo during the rainy season. Be it costs, things to see, things to avoid, and anything else you may think would've helped you, had someone shredded some knowledge on you before your travels. I appreciate anyone who reads and is able to respond, and wish all the best of travels wherever you are in the world now.

Hi,
Please can anyone recommend a good, knowledgeable local/independent tour guide for the Omo Valley.
And/or is anyone planning a visit there around the end of March 2015 who would be happy to join together to hire a local guide and share guide/transport costs?
I'm looking to spend between 7 to 14 days in the region.
Are there any opportunities for more authentic homestay type experiences with the tribes in this region?
Many thx.
