Just to clarify on the question posted below..
I was wondering if there are ATMs in Ethiopia that accept cards from FOREIGN banks? I have an ATM issued from Wells Fargo Bank (U.S. Based) that is on the Plus system. Will this work In Addis?
Are the ATMs only in Addis or are there ATMs located in other towns (i.e. Historical Circuit) as well?

VISA only! "Don't leave home without it!" Leave your American Express - its totally useless and MasterCard is almost as useless...
Visa usable at ATM machines in Addis as well as others in major town. MasterCard processed at certain bank counters, not ATMs ( with higher service charge).

Your bank card will work in Ethiopia at some branches of Dashen bank, I used my Maestro card in Bahir Dar and Gonder with no problems in January, previously it was only possible to use visa cards.

( Note that ATMS are still few and far between here so it's important to also carry plenty of cash and or travellers cheques)
Yes - Dashen Bank has just started taking Mastercard, but I haven't verified it. Visa is fine, though ATMs are rare. People will always be happy to change your foreign currency.
