Hullo All,

I am hoping to do a tour (of about eight days) with a commercial company (often recommended on this forum) to the Omo Va. sometime in June. As a single traveller it is a bit beyond my budget. Anybody interested in joining me?

Two or three others would make the price more attractive e.g. single USD1400; two people, US1040 per head; three, US 865 p.h.; four US780 p.h.

Failing that, can anybody say whether getting around (and to and from) the Omo Va by public transport is feasible? (It certainly would be cheaper.)

Thanks
Odontaspis.

Hello!
Which company were you thinking of going with? I am travelling with two others to Ethiopia proabably the later half of June and we are definately interested in splitting costs. Contact me by email (arielle_vdw@hotmail.com), let me know what your thinking of doing!

Hi. It is probably a bit late for you but we are planning a 6 day round trip to the south from Addis leaving July 11th. The company we will probably go with is Sora tours thanks to all the good comments on this forum, we would just hire the jeep and driver and arrange the rest along the way, its a whole lot cheaper. Afraid we can't stretch to any more than 6 days, we are on a frustratingly tight schedule. Let me know if you are interested.

Hullo Natter12,

Yes, interested, but, I am afraid I have to be in Europe by late-June. However your thought of just hiring a 4WD and driver sounds a good alternative to becoming part of a tour - albeit not very many people. The flexibility of your own hired jeep appeals.

Arielle, if you are still out there - about to answer my message of yesterday - this sounds a good alternative.

I took the bus down to Konso, rented a 4x4 there for 100 USD per day for easy access to the villages in the Lower Omo valley (4 days), was dropped in Jinka, rented a car for 1 day there for Mago NP (Mursi). From Jinka I took the bus back to Arba Minch. In my opinion, this is the best approach for visiting that region. You do not need a tour from/to Addis. There are regular buses between Konso, Key Afar and Jinka. Renting a 4x4 in Jinka is more expensive than in Konso.

have fun,
Raphi
