I've looked at either the Selam or Sky bus schedules, and the only one I see online leaves at 6:00 am. I will be spending the night near Yirga Alem, further south of Hawassa, and can't get up there by that time. What would my options be around 10 am? Helpful poster Michel noted to me that buses should go all day, which makes sense. I will be traveling with a young kid, so as direct as possible would be helpful. Thanks.

More than a direct bus, a big one is more important for the last part of the trip...
Another option could be stop in Ziway, reaching Butajira and moving North to the capital city...
Nice road.

At Hawassa Bus Station just ask for an Addis bus.
There will be one there, filling up.......
Takes 6 hours against Selam 4 plus.....
Stops more often especially on the way into Addis...
BUT fine, have done it myself.

You have direct buses from Awassa main bus station.
They will stop (for lunch/diner) at Ziway and will reach Addis via Mojo-Debre Zeit.
It's easy to use them.
