Hi there,

We are a couple, one British national and one Czech national. We plan to travel overland from Egypt through Sudan to Ethiopia leaving Cairo probably sometime around the beginning of May.

Just wondering if anyone has experience of picking up a visa for Ethiopia in either Cairo or Khartoum? I heard that it can be arranged in Khartoum in one day for $20 can anyone confirm this? Would it be cheaper or easier in Cairo?

We have to arrange our Sudanese visas in Cairo so we could get them both done there. I am not sure about leaving it until Khartoum given the unpredictable nature of things in Sudan.

Cheers

Very easy - $30 in Cairo, $20 in Khartoum, same day service. However the Ethiopian embassy in Khartoum was closed for five days for official meetings in Kasane before we finally got to make the application!!! I would get it in Cairo as you will likely find more to do there and the embassy should be more organised, though I cannot fault the Khartoum staff once they opened. They even looked after our bags for us whilst we waited!
