I’ve done research though travel books and Thorn tree trying to get the most current info. on a trip I want to do to Ethiopia, Somaliland and Djibouti, so I am posting on all 3. I am looking for feedback if you’ve been to these places recently or have new info. I am a US citizen for passport purposes.
Here’s the plan: Fly into Addis get a multiple entry visa at airport. In Addis get Somaliland visa (looks like less than a day) and Djibouti visa (looks like maybe 2 days, I will not have a flight to Djibouti but will have a return flight booked via Ethiopia Airways an also one night booked at a hotel). Look around Addis and around for a couple while waiting. Take bus to Harar spend a couple days there, shared taxi to border onto Hargeisa look around for a couple days, Las Geels , 4 X 4 overland 16 hour trip to Djibouti City a couple days visit one lake, then fly back to Addis. It’s a bit of whirlwind but I have a couple days built in for longer visa time or break down with the 16 hour Hargeisa trip as I’ve traveled in Africa before I know it can happen.
The main areas I am concerned about are getting the visas (2x entry for Ethiopia and Djibouti esp.) and the Hargeisa trip (does this go every day for sure, breakdowns? ). So any feedback from someone who has does this recently or is in the know would be appreciated.

Unless things have changed in the last two months (which is perfectly possible), multiple-entry visa is not available on arrival in Addis Ababa, You can get three months, no problem but single-entry only.

Thanks for both responses. I will post to tripadvisor and look into Bradt and if I have questions I will contact you aratkilo. I wouldn't have enough time to get the visa before. If I fly into Addis from US and only get the single entry then go overland to S and D and then fly from D to Addis a week later, wouldn't I be able to get another single entry at the airport?

Thanks. Should be no prob getting second VOA at your 2nd arrival in Addis.......
Just $50each to Brits and other non Americans...
Americans can get longer visa but at more cost......

Got it thanks. Things always seem to work out in the end. I plan on e-mailing you on what to do in AA as well
