I'm planning on bringing a lot of Ethiopian coffee back with me to the United States. Does anyone know just how much I can take in the States through customs?

It looks like you can bring $800 worth duty free. See here:

US Customs limits

Note that beans must be roasted.

Enjoy,

Going with what BriBri said, if it is not roasted then it is considered produce and can't be brought in without a lot of hassle and if it is roasted then I don't see the point. Roaster beans are only at there best for a couple of weeks max. There is a company in the US called coffee coral that sells fresh green yergacheffe and harar beans. I buy from them all the time and the quality is outstanding. Regular coffee just doesn't cut once you have spent time in ethiopia.
