Climate in July and August in Ethiopia

I was in the centre and north of Ethiopia last July and August. It was pretty cold (around 14 degrees C) and rainy, it rained most mornings and evenings in the high centre of Ethiopia, leaving the ground muddy and exposing potholes on the roads, which make for very slow bus journeys (around 8 hours for 150km in some cases). North of Gonder (and in the east and south I'm told) it got warm (around 22 degrees) and there was very little rain.

It will be rainy in most areas of central Ethiopia during the months of July and August. Be prepared for rain--pack a warm coat, cap and an umbrella and a good pair of boots. Generally, it will rain in the evenings, nights and early mornings. In and around Addis, the days are most often sunny with mild temperatures. You'll be able to get out, but there are some places where it will be difficult to get around--the more rural the area, the more difficulty. Venturing out from Addis to places like Debre Ziet to Nazareth, Sodore, Awash, and Dire Dawa or Debre Ziet to Shashemene, Wendo Genet and Awasa will not be difficult because the roads are good--except that they are only two lane. With friends and a comfortable place to stay, it can be quite enjoyable. For me, it's a good change from the constant heat and sun of the Middle East desert.
