I have been researching banking in Ethiopia---does anyone have any first hand experience with the "Visa only" ATM's? Does this mean that the cash machines in the country will not take a Mastercard ATM with Nice, Cirrus, Plus, Maestro, or the other network indicators on the back of the card? Or has the ATM system/banking system been upgraded in the country or just in Addis as-of-late?

Visa Cards only accepted throughout Ethiopia. In Addis, ATMs located at major centers like the Hilton, Sheraton, Wabe Shebelle Hotels, Dembel Shopping Center, etc. Dashen Banks throughout Addis Ababa also process Visa cards. I think one of the other private banks at the Hilton Hotel also accepts Master Card. You may want to check on that. As for outside Addis Ababa whereever their is a Dashen Bank, they process Visa Card.
