Hello,
we are heading to Ethiopia in April for one month. I would like to ask about safety at/around the airport. We will arrive at night - 2:30am (there is no other flight from our country). Is it better to stay at the airport till morning or is it OK to take taxi to some hostel.
One more question - how is the wheather in that time? Any areas must be avoided because of rain? We have quite enough time so would like to see as much as possible.
Thanks

No need to stay at this very boring airport. Some Taxis are standing outside, even at night. It as not dangerous at all. The only pest is the arguing with the traxi driver considering the price. Unless you just pay what he says, because you don't know the prices or just are tired.
Buying some guidebook would allow you a glimpse on the average climate, buying Lonely Planet for example would reveal you, that you should avoid Omo Valley in April.

Hi, it is safe to take a taxi even at this time.
Book a hotel before.
We were at K-Z Hotel on Bole road, 5 Min. from the Airport. It was very clean and good for one night.

Cheers, Wicky

Definitely safe. Addis is actually a very safe city (except a couple of areas). I arrived in the middle of my night with my three year old son in December--we were totally fine.

The main rainy season in Addis doesn't really begin til late June and July.
