Hi,
I'll have to wait in the Cairo airport for around eight hours next august before taking another plane. So I was thinking about a short trip to the pyramids of Giza.

I've never been to the cairo airport, do you think it is feasible or I would I lose too much time on the controls for getting in and out of the airport?

Do you think it be possible to rent a taxi at the airport for a trip to Giza and back?
Any trustable taxi company to reccomend? Any idea on how much would it costs?

thanks in…

I have to do a somewhat large Visa cash advance while in Cairo and need it dispensed in US dollars notes. Can anyone recommend a good bank with a good commission to get this done?

Thankx!

Hi, I have read some posts about the ferry from Aqaba to Nuweiba. I would like to cross from Jordan around 14th/15th July 2007 and end up in Sharm. Is the new fast ferry the best way? I believe a new boat has arrived. What about going overland via Israel - is the stamp in the passport a problem?
Also does a bus/service taxi meet the ferry? Can I take that to Sharm? I read in one of the posts, it takes a while to unload the boat and get visas?
Is it best to get a 14 day sinai visa (I intend…

I've read articles saying that no cameras are allowed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, but then I read somewhere else that you can buy a permit to use a camera (without the flash). Does anybody know if cameras are allowed inside or not.

Thank you

Hi there

My boyfriend and I are thinking of giong to Egypt for 10 days at the beginning of October.
I realise that this a short time, but we'd like to see what we can without feeling like we're rushing around ticking boxes.
My initial thought was to spend 3 days in Cairo and the rest of the time snorkelling and chilling on the red sea.
Has anyone got any recommendations?
Would a felucca trip be an option? How long are they usually?
Could we incorporate Cairo, Felucca and Red Sea, or is that…

I'm really sorry to post this question as visas are often discussed on the Thorntree but I just want reassurance - last time my partner and I went to Egypt (many years ago!) our Aus travel agent organised our visas, but this time we are organising our trip by ourselves with our three kids. I've read in LP etc that you can get entry visas at Cairo airport. Obviously we can get the visas here in Aus for about $35 Aus each through the Egyptian embassy, but I'm wondering whether it wouldn't be…

My friend and I (two females in our 20s) are going to Egypt for the first time in August but only have a week there.

As we are short of time, we are looking for your advice about how the time is best spent?

Was initially thinking of:

Cariro - two days the fly to Aswan

Aswan - 1 day

Marsa Alam - is this worth is?

Luxor - 2 days

Cairo to fly out again

What do you think? Any advice greatly welcomed as would like to see the highlights but maybe one place not so well known too!

Answers on a postcard please!

I just looked at some photos of the Nile Hilton and it doesn't look like the hotel I stayed at in 2001, except for the mall outside. They really fixed up the place, didn't they? I loved the hotel, it was fancy in a classical way. Now it definitely looks 21st century.
