My wife and I are going to be in Luxor for a couple of weeks or so. We're tempted to go to Aswan for a few days but we're a bit fed up of sitting on mini-buses for long stretches, either waiting for them to fill up or bumping along.

Does anyone kindly know whether there's a simple, convenient and not too expensive way of getting from Luxor to Aswan and back? Mini buses seem to be the best option and as long as there's not too much hanging around and it doesn't take more than about 4 hours…

I am planning a 7 - 10 day trip (last minute booking, so don't know the exact length yet) before Christmas. I originally thought I would stay in Dahab only, but knowing me, I will get bored of just hanging out and doing some snorkling... So this brings up a number of questions:

I read that there are a number of hikes around Dahab. Does anyone know if they are offered by tours or easy and safe to organize yourself? I am a single female traveler, and would only organize myself if I meet at least…

I was wondering what the safest possible way would be to visit Egypt. All I really want to see is some of the pyramids really . So wouldn't need to stay more than a few days probably. But Im too scared to go coz I hear how bad stuff happens over there and all that so researching options at the moment. Would a contiki tour or something similar be the safest way, or would going just 2 people (1 male 1 female) yourself be no more safe or unsafe ?
Thanks

Hi. I know this has been much discussed, but I'd to know the latest information about safety for American travelers to Egypt. I was in Cairo a few years ago, but a lot has happened since then. I'm thinking that this December would be a good time to go, less crowded than most Christmas/New Year's periods. I imagine Americans are not especially popular right now, but I found Egyptians very friendly, and I enjoy the challenge of a good political discussion (as I had during some taxi rides before--…

Hi guys

I'll be in sharm el sheikh for 10 days over xmas and I wanted to try snorkelling for the first time in Egypt. I live in the UK and I would be grateful if anyone could comment on the daily cost of hiring snorkel, boyancy jacket, fins and mask in Sharm El Sheikh, I'm debating whether it's worth it to buy these items locally before I fly out as opposed to hire them. Any recommendations in Sharm for places to hire this equipment would be great.

Cheers and happy travelling.

Michael

Does anyone happen to know what the situation is with the night train going Luxor to Cairo, I am hearing conflicting stories that the tracks are open, closed, will be open soon, won't be open for the rest of the month, locals have closed down the tracks in protest after the bus accident.

I asked at the station, but could not really get a straight answer, I have a ticket for the night of the 22nd and I have heard that getting a refund is next to impossible, has anyone had any experince in that…

Hi, folks!!

I will visit Sudan in December and I will have some free days in Egypt (before and after my Sudanese trip). I will like to go to the Siwa Oasis (near the Lybian border). Siwa looks gorgeous in the pictures (especially the old citadel of Shali) and its history is fascinating. But it's a bit away from the main tourist sites in Egypt (8-9 hours from Cairo). And if I go, I will just have two days there.

So, if somebody out there have been in Siwa, please tell me:
(1) Is really as…

Dear all,

Is it normal for a tour operator in Egypt to request full payment in advance?

EPTOURS.COM is asking for full payment, they are recommended by Lonely Planet but we just want to double check with fellow travelers if this is the normal procedure.

Thanks for your feedback in advance!
