Hello,

My girlfriend and I are going to Egypt soon and only have five and a half days; we'll fly in and out of Cairo. I am seeking advise from someone who knows the country well. We have limited time so where do you recommend us to go?

Obviously we will see the Great Pyramid of Giza but I was wondering if we'd have time to get to Alexandria and somewhere in the south like Luxor. Any tips are much appreciated.

This Monday I'm flying from Istanbul to Cairo then Cairo to Aswan with a 1:05 layover which has me a bit concerned. A while ago someone at Egypt Air told me that customs will be handled at Aswan and I won't have to recheck the bag in Cairo. What about a visa/immigration? Will that somehow be taken care of in Aswan too or will I have to get the visa on arrival in Cairo (US passport) within my limited layover? Both flights supposedly arr/dep Terminal 3.

Hi all,

1) what would be the best way to visit these two places, by train or by taxi?
2) The hostel has offered the price of 420 Egyptian pounds for two people, is this a reasonable price? (We are actually looking for the price around 300). Plus how easy would it be to find someone sharing the taxi with us?
3) Apart from the hostel we stay, where else, say, tour operator, can we get the reliable quote for a taxi to these two places please?

I need to pick up malaria medication before heading to Ethiopia from Egypt on Dec 17 and I may need a year's worth so cost is a consideration.

I will certainly be in Aswan, Luxor, and Cairo. Anyone have any idea of how much 250 mg tablets go for? Also, can I purchase the meds at a pharmacy without visiting a doctor? Should I be worried about the availability and efficacy of medicine purchased in Egypt?

Hi, what options are there to travel from Luxor City to Marsa Alam by road? Is there a good Deluxe Coach service for a transfer without sightseeing stops?

From Aysut (I'd be coming from Dharkla), is the train still the only way permisible by public transport to get to Abydos and Dendera?

I was hoping to stay around Abydos. Is there any place to stay and if so is it permitted?
If not where would be the best place to stay the night?

Does anyone know the times of trains from Aysut to Al Balyana and Al Balyana to Qena and Qena to Luxor, as they dont appear on the egyptian rail website.

I will not do it as a taxi trip from Luxor.

Hi all,

I am arriving in Sharm El Sheikh on the evening of 3rd December. My friend who lives elsewhere in Egypt tells me that as the import alcohol there is quite expensive people always ask if you have bought any alcohol there for them to buy off you. I don`t need to bring any alcohol to drink so if anyone would like me to bring them something let me know what you would like and how much it is worth to in Egyptian money.

I'm planning my second trip to Egypt and first to areas along the Nile. After a few days in Cairo and 4 days in Luxor, I'm hoping to chill out in beautiful surroundings and probably make some side trips. I was able to get my first-choice place to stay (mid-range) and booked for 8 nights (and could change or cancel).
