Guys,

Has anyone been recently in Egypt coming from Eilat (Israel)? How safe it is to cross the Sinai desert in direction of Cairo? And is it currently safe to visit Caio and the pyramides?

Thanks a lot!

Since 19.10. till 19.11. 2007 I have been to Egypt, travelling independently and mostly using public transport. My route included Dahab (incl. Sinai desert trip, St. Katherine monastery visit & Mt. Sinai trek), Sharm el-Sheik (incl. visit of the Ras Mohammed NP), Alexandria, Siwa, Bahariya (incl. visit of the Black Desert & White Desert), Farafra, Dakhla, Luxor, and Cairo (incl. Visit of the Giza, Dahshur & Saqqara pyramid sites, and the Wadi Natrun monasteries).

When preparing for my trip I…

This forum was very helpful for me to give me some first advices for my trip in December to Egypt. It was a short trip, I just stayed in Cairo from 28 December to 1 January. So if anybody is interested in some travel experiences from two friends (25 and 24 years old)… here we go!

Because of the turbulences at this time in Cairo (especially at Tahrir) we had a bit respect before our flight started in Zurich. Our hotel (Semiramis) was just some hundred metres away from the place.

After a direct…

Hi,
I'm planning on heading to Egypt solo in October, and I'm doing all my fun research and review in the meantime, which probably means questions in this forum! (and probably others)

I've been looking at both planned tours and the idea of going on a slightly less strict itinerary that lets me actually meet people and try food and be a lot more spontaneous. I'm thinking of mostly hitting "classical" Egypt (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and the various sites nearby, Alexandria) over about 14 days.

So my…

Hi

Could anybody clear up a slight confusion I have with the lonely planet books.

In both the new edition of Egypt and Discover Egypt they say that there is one bus between Al-Kharga and Asyut at 7PM plus microbuses that leave when full. However, when talking about getting from Luxor to Al-Kharga via Asyut they say that there are several buses a day from Asyut. I don't see that there would be one bus a day in one direction and several in the other. So I wonder if they mean there is one bus and…

Hi.
I'm going (as most of the tourist I think) to make a Nilo Cruise.
I was planning to do a Cruise from Aswan to Luxor (or vice versa).

My question is:
What are the BEST cruises around?
By best I mean: good food, very nice place.
I want a "not extremelly small - exclusive" cruise.

Any advice? What are the best around?

Thanks!..

Pablo.

My boyfriend and I are planning a year long backpacking trip, and we'd like to stop in Egypt for a few days before going to Jordan and Israel.

I made some research and we are very intrigued by the desert. I have two possible itinerary in mind with different time frame and I would like to have your opinions as 1) Is it doable? 2) Are we gonna miss out on the cord of what Egypt really is?

10-day itinerary:
about 2 days in Cairo
Night train to Siwa Oasis (about 2 days)
Possible to stop to Alexandria…
