I'm back and I didn't enjoy Egypt very much. Should have gone with a tour. So many obstacles-from language barrier to no street signs in English (like the guide books show!), to unhelpful people and the harassment of selling stuff was unnerving. I got lost in Cairo twice...cried...and was helped both times by young Egyptians! Very thankful! An Egyptian woman was yelling at me in Arabic and I didn't know what the heck I did! I couldn't come and go as I usually do and that culture shock was…
Arrival to cairo airport is at 12:15PM. Hotel is over towards giza. Train to Aswan is following day at 8:00 PM. How can i manage to see some sights in the afternoon on arrival so i don't have to go to the hotel first and also i have the entire following day. I would like to see Giza, Dahshur,Saqqara, The citidel, Islamic Cairo and perhaps coptic cairo. I know its a lot but just want to give a quick visit with some pics etc. I would rather see the pyramids early morning on the second day . Tour…
Hello lovely friends,
So I am currently in Uganda, and in a bit of airline trouble. I had been considering flying into Cairo previously, from here, but now it is looking even more attractive since flights there are so inexpensive. I am eventually trying to get to Europe, but I would love to see Israel along the way. There are many cheap flights up to Europe from Tel Aviv. So I am wondering, how safe would it be to take a bus from Cairo over to Israel? I know Sinai has been extremely dangerous…
Hi,
I plan to visit Egypt. I will start my vacation in Cairo as I have to see the pyramids to start with.I consider at some stage to hire a car and drive directly to Taba through Klaat Nahel in order to cross over to Jordan for a day tour in Petra.
is it permitted & possible to drive that main road connecting Suez canal to Taba? is it safe nowadays?
Are there any risks using that road? I believe that crossing of Suez canal can be done at Ahmed Hamdi tunnel, unless somebody will say differently.
I…
Dear all,
I am arriving alone into Cairo at noon and leave at midnight. My bags are checked through and I am getting a visa in advance.
I want to see the pyramids at Giza and also visit the Egyptian museum.
Should I take a taxi from place to place or should I hire a driver for the day? What would be the price for a taxi from airport-Giza, Giza-downtown, Downtown to airport?
Are there any recommendations for drivers and around how much should I pay??
Thank you!
After i arrive via taxi, is it possible to do the west bank on foot if we start early all in a day ? Were pretty quick movers and enjoy long walks etc. Also we don't usually linger too long at the sights, we keep moving along. Plan is to do west bank one day and east bank the next........
Just curious how much would be reasonable for a fulluca ride per hour hour with 3 persons. Also, how much can be expected to pay per person to go on the ferry to Agilkia Island to see the Philae temple.....? Figure if i need to negotiate better to have a # in mind....Thanks
Dear friends, I am looking at booking a flight that would involve two sixteen hour layovers in Cairo, both in and out. I am a Canadian citizen. My question is what is the best course of action regarding acquiring a visa that would allow me to visit the city twice during these layovers within a one month period. Should I just buy a regular tourist visa in advance or buy one on arrival, or is there a specific one day transit visa that I can buy? All wisdom is greatly appreciated. Thank you in…
I have 2 weeks holidays at the beginning of July and i would like to go to Marsa Alam but i am worrying about hot weather because i wonna bring my grandfather 69 years old. Should be safe for him there (we will have AC hotel on the beach)
thanks

Lawlessness has become so endemic in Egypt that the U.S. Embassy this week warned Americans away from visiting the country’s famed pyramids. A academic teaching at the American University in Cairo received an email from the embassy warning of “aggressiveness [that] in some cases is closer to criminal conduct… with angry groups of individuals surrounding and pounding on [vehicles]… and in some cases attempting to open the vehicle’s doors.” The warning…
