Hi everyone,
I am wondering if anyone can recommend a guide or company for a short (three days, two nights) camping trip in the White Desert? I have friends (there would be about 6 of us total) coming to visit and we are thinking of doing this in December. We would be leaving from Cairo and returning back to Cairo and would need a guide (s), vehicles and camping gear. I see several companies on the Internet, but I would rather go with someone who is recommended.
Thank you.

I went in the white desert with Badri, I had found his name in the Lonely Planet and he was good. You take the bus from Cairo and he waits for you in Bahariya. The only problem we experienced was that some of the young Beduin guides were close to harassing the girls : since several Western women married Beduins in the town, youngsters dream of becoming rich the same way. But this happens with many guides, and will stop if you tell them it is not appropriate.
Personnaly I found that one night and two days would have been sufficient as there is not so much to see. Sleeping in the desert is quite an experience but sadly, the White desert has become more and more touristy and you won't be alone out there.

Hi,
Mahmoud Bahr also organizes trips to the White and Black Desert and the oasis. He comes and picks you up in Cairo at your hotel or at the airport, or you can go by bus to Bahariya where he waits for you.
First night I would opt to stay in Agabat as it is less touristic. The views and scenery are amazing overthere. The second night opt for a night in the white desert. On the way back from the white desert to Bahariya, Mahmoud often stops in the Western Desert. He provides blankets, sleeping backs, bbq dinner on a wooden fire, water, etc. He prepares breakfast, lunch and dinner for you in the desert. You can email him at desert_tiger84@yahoo.com or check out his website www.whitedesert.page.tl and his guestbook.
I hope that I have helped you out.

my friend Reda drives for a tour guide company - he is quite reliable and isn't into hassling girls. email him and say joanne gave you his address. he lives in bahariya oasis and should be able to help. They pick up from Cairo and other places.
