Looking for some advice. Have read the last bunch of posts but things change everyday and it's now Aug 2nd. I''m in a bind - my flight home isn't till the 21st of Aug out of Istanbul and moving it is a huge penalty because of change in fare nonsense. I also have an Indian passport so unlike my american and european friends I don't get to pick any country I want and hop on a plane - i need visas before hand to travel which right now I only have for egypt. I need to do something with myself for 17 days starting on Sunday. (currently in Jordan, been here a week).

Would love to hear from people on the ground in touristy (non-cairo) parts on safety and travel advice.

My plan was to avoid Cairo including Giza. I was going to go from Aqaba to Nuweiba, and then bus/taxi to Dahab. Hang in Dahab and Sharm for a 3-4 days and probably once on the ground book a cruise on the nile and suck it up and pay for something higher end than i'd like for safety and do that for a week. That'll buy me 10 days I think. At that point it'll be mid Aug and my guess is there's no way to predict what the situation will be then so might as well cross that bridge when I get to it but if things improve I go to Cairo/Giza, if things don't then head back to the red sea, get a cheap ass place and ride out a week on the beach doing much of nothing.

Sorry for the long post. Losing my mind trying to figure out my next move. I'm 38 (not a young crazy kid prone to stupidity), male, brown skinned, travelling alone, and willing to spend a few bucks to stay at nice hotels, book tours etc. It's not how I like to travel (i normally hate organized tours) but in this situation I'm happy to prioritize safety over my wallet and travel prefs.

I have to imagine between the red sea and Luxor/Aswan/Nile cruises I will be ok but would love some thoughts / feedback / opinions especially from people there now or very recently returned given how fast everything changes.

My other option is to spend $1500 and go to Kenya that will give me a visa on arrival and then probably another few grand down there on a safari - which will be awesome - but right now if I skip egypt I'm looking at several thousand dollars to reroute myself to a new destination which I'm hoping not to do. Frankly I've been on the road for 2 months, I could just as well head home if Turkish Airlines would let me change my flight, but alas that is not the case.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Sid

...... unfortunately nobody seems to have a suggestion for you, have you found an alternative yet.

To mention, Istanbul seems to simmering with resentment towards the President and his Government, the Iftar demonstrations are uniting a wide section of Turks and proving to be very effective, if visiting keep an eye on developments.
