I am thinking to stay in Giza and visit Cairo from there.Maybe using taxi to Subway to get to the area's I want to visit.
and return at night.

Also I was wandering if Egyptian wear knee lenght shorts, would it be out of place if I would wear shorts away from the beach ?

Thank you

If you take a taxi fm Giza to downtown Cairo it takes ,abt 50 min - an hour, depending on traffic jam. A much faster and cheaper alternative is to take a taxi fm yr hotel in Giza to the Giza metro station and same when you return at night.

Egyptians do not wear knee lenght shorts, nowhere in Cairo! T-shirts are okey but shorts - out of question. Only little children can wear shorts...Everything unusual especially re. clothes draws attention. Sometimes I've seen some tourists wearing shorts in Cairo. I suppose they haven't made that mistake twice...

Thank you for the info,I am not in the habit to stir and did not want to attract unnecessary attention to myself. That is why I ask about shorts,it is a packing challenge to keep it light with pants, but i will deal with it.After all respect is the main goal.
As for going into Cairo I appreciate the in put how long would it take in the subway ?

Confirmed. It's not illegal, or anything, to wear shorts. But locals simply don't.

Of course, when you're walking around the pyramids or in the Egyptian museum or something, you'll see most tourists wearing them. Ignorance is bliss, i guess.

To be honest I don't remember exactly how long it took in metro, less than a taxi anyhow. Something like half an hour - 40 minutes...? Cairo metro is rather trustworthy and a metro ticket was only ONE Egyptian pound still last year. Now they are raising metro ticket price with several pounds, I don't know if it has been done already. Perhaps somebody else knows?

Thanks Kathy,I am arranging everything no guide or agencies.
Of course along the way I will probably hire guides for specific sites, but not to plan my trip.
