I wonder if anyone has a guide to recommend for Cairo. A friend of mine said something about how she had a private guide who narrated the National Museum and got them into the Pyramids, etc. But she couldn't remember her name or contact information. I'm not sure I want to be on a big bus full of tourists, but the idea of having a professional guide is really appealling.

We had an awesome, sassy guide named Doaa for four days in Cairo. She knew her stuff and pushed us through those big bus loads of tourists to see everything we wanted, especially in the Cairo Museum. I don't have her personal contact info, but you could get in touch with her through our tour operator, Egypt 7000. I don't think I would have quite understood the importance of pretty much anything in the museum without her.

Hi there,

Our tour guide for three days in Cairo was Mohammed Ahmed [email: seddik20002000@yahoo.com] and he was terrific. We were not a on big bus it was a mixed group of three backpackers in our late 20s/early 30s. We bargained and split the cost of our guide as well as a driver and it was the safest and most efficient way to do and see everything in the Cairo area. We had a blast! Most of the time your hotel can take care of arranging a tour guide for you- just be sure to bargain for the right price. King Tut Hostel and Sun Hotel in the Talaat Harb/downtown area are both great places to stay and came highly recommended by lots of people for helping to arrange tours, etc. I agree with travelbetty, you really need a guide to get the most out of Cairo.

Have a great time,

Beware : the guides can be very educated persons who will teach you amazing things about Egypt or... stupid people who know very little about Egypt and will keep on making vulgar jokes to hide that fact.
I'd strongly advise that you hire only a guide who has been recommended by someome who can testify he/she is a good professional.

Hi there,

I can recommend you an excellent guide I have used her many times for myself and my visitors. Her name is Rasha, and you can contact her on her e-mail: tourist_guide72@hotmail.com. She speaks very good English, very informative, flexible, and patient and she is of great knowledge of history and archaeology because she is an Egyptologist as well.

Have a nice trip
