Hi forum,
My wife and I will fly tomorrow from Luxor to Sharm el-Sheik in Sinai. Our plane will arive at 7:35PM; we're investigating transportation alternatives to Dahab, our final destination. The hotel (Bedouin Loudge Dahab) has offered to send a car to pick us up for 230LE. That sounds ridiculous, since both our plane tickets were 296LE. My questions are:
1) Is there any late bus that leaves Sharm after our arrival (lonely planet lists the last one at 6pm)
2) Has anybody recently negotiated a cab from Sharm to Dahab and for how much?
Thanks,
Fritz

Have done it in taxi for 130 EGP. Now I arrived at the bus station and I bargained for a while in Arabic. I doubt you will be successful if you speak only English and arrive at the airport. Taxi drivers are like a small mafia and they are used to ripping off tourists, it can be hard to bargain with them.
Maybe you can try to bargain the price with your hotel in Dahab.

What a rip off!!
Taxi no more than 100 pounds, since you are arriving at night...and keep in mind that if someone trys to charge you more, move to the next taxi driver.

Thank you for the thoughts on taxis. We're already used to their tricks, we've been in Egypt for over 2 weeks now...
Any idea about late buses?
#2, I don't know when you last travelled from Sharm airport to Dahab by taxi, but I have not been able to get a taxi for LE 100 for at least 5 years..., not even from town or from Dahab, and the airport is the worst place to bargain a deal, especially if you arrive at night and the taxi drivers know you depend on them. Like catw says, the drivers there are quite well organised and work together, so the old "walk away to the next guy" doesn't work there.
OP, you can try to get a taxi for LE 150 if you bargai hard, or, as suggested above, try to get a better deal from your hotel. As for buses, there are later buses coming from Cairo which stop at Sharm and then continue to Dahab, but I don't know (nor can anyone else) whenh exactly they leave. The 1 pm bus from Cairo may be coming through Sharm at aroun 7 or 8, the next one probably closer to midnight. Considering that you nwould still have to pay for the taxi to the bus station (probably around LE 50), not worth the hassle imo, especially if there is twoi of you to share the costs for the taxi to Dahab.
