Thanks everyone. We have 5 days total for this part of trip, so even if it takes an entire day to drive between Cairo and Siwa, that gives us 3 days there (hence the confusing title of my post). I think the M. Matruh flights are seasonal - summer only. Six hours may not be right, but if it takes 10 hours by bus with a transfer, I assume you can do it much faster hiring a private car. Now the trick is to find one! Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks again!

With the private car you do no have to wait (1-2 hrs) for the connecting transport in M.Matruh but the big bus was always faster than any other car. Two days was ok for me with the bicycle. I did not do the sleep-shiver in the desert after the jeep excursion.
Newrip, I thought about that too...the flights being seasonal. But wouldn't summer be 'low season'? I would think they would have flights in the winter, when it can get to 125 degrees in the shade in Siwa. As for your title, it wasn't confusing. I was calculating based on the time you 'land' in Cairo to when you have to be in Luxor. Do you have extra time allotted to see Cairo, then?
Meant to say 'I would think they would have flights in the winter when it DOESN'T get to 125 degrees in the shade in Siwa.'

The seasonal flights are between Cairo and M. Matruh - a beach town. I don't think it's full on beach weather in the winter. We are trying to decide on two or three nights in Siwa. If we go for 3 nights we have only 1 night (two half days) in Cairo/Giza and two days in Luxor. Is two nights enough in Siwa? We want to see the big sites, but are not big fans of museums, tourist crowds or big chaotic cities.
