Dear TTers

Am planning a 1 week trip to Egypt this July. I've been to Egypt before so am looking to see the second division sights.

Am considering hiring a car at Cairo airport and heading to Ismailia, then looping round the coast to Alexandria, then back to Cairo. I have hired a car and driven in Egypt before, so yes I know what I'm letting myself in for and I am not planning on driving through downtown Cairo or Alexandria.

I'm looking for recommendations for interesting places to see / stay, in particular along the coast given its going to be baking in July. I'm a fairly easy to please tourist - museums, history, good food, shisha etc. will keep me happy.

Finally given the collapse in tourist numbers, will the 'second division' places be high-hassle? i.e. will I be mobbed walking around the touristy parts of Alexandria?

Thanks as always for your advice.
