we are heading south from Edfu, having flown in to Egpyt at marsa alam.

Could anyone share their knowledge about touring on the Nile from Edfu To Aswan?
We are open to consider cruises, feluccas,or dahabiyyas.
We would be happy to know if we can negotiate the day before sailing with the captain/agent.

We would like to know:
Is it possible to pickup a tour by any kind of boat at Edfu?
Should we go to negotiate in the morning the day before or the night before morning departure?
How long each option possible takes?
Names of operators/boats you've enjoyed and think they deserve your reccomendation.

Many thanks

I took a 3 night nile tour from Luxor to Aswan and thought it was a very good experience. The Nile itself is very scenic and it stops off at all the important temples and sights. I paid about $60 per ngiht for a 5* boat (I felt like every boat dubbed themselves 5* so whatever). Included the room, and all my meals. I would NOT recommend the feluccas for multiple night trips. It is cool to go on for like a sunset but it is not that comfortable and the novely will wear off very quickly.

I'd also very much recommend negotiating the fare especially nowadays as Egypt is reeling from the whole ISIS situation and their tourism numbers have plummeted, everyone is desperate.

Hello all and thanks " Johnny Africa" for providing some input to this question. :o)

I was specifically interested whether we could join a boat trip of any kind from Edfu as we are travelling to this place first from Marsa Alam and will not necessarily be able to commence at Luxor or Aswan.

Can anyone shed any light on whether we can join a trip from EDFU and travel down to Aswan or even as far as Able Simbel?

Many thanks,

A

You can probably pick up a felucca at Edfu, but maybe at a higher rate than Aswan or Luxor as this is not a major point of departure. I suggest you look into taking the local minivan transport to Aswan. It's very cheap, fast, and you can talk to locals along the way. As I recall the jitney stop was within easy walking distance of the temple which certainly not be missed.

Hi I did this trip over a few days on a very basic traditional boat we stopped at many places though out the day along the way and it was a time when back packers where into adventure and didn't need WiFi every second of the day...we actually just slept on the deck with the crew amazing to actually live the life of the locals ( What travel was all about once and there was no complaints just real adventure) I actually class this trip as 1 of the best parts of Egypt as to all the temples we stopped at and country side we seen and locals we meet along the way( Note its not for a flashbackers at all)..I organized it a few days before by asking around who/which boat was leaving in the next few days was very low cost ...A million times better than screaming down the road in a bus and just seeing the inside of the bus for your whole holiday..Take some sun screen and insect repellent with you and a bit of spare food and heaps of water.....Loved it will never forget this trip *****

This is great information - where did you ask around for boat departures? Was this in Aswan? Approximately what was the daily cost for the trip and how many days did you sail for?

Thanks for the help! I'm going in a few weeks and trying to determine if we should book ahead of time or book on arrival in Aswan/Esna
