Hi All,
I'm considering doing a Nile cruise on 10th Dec for 7 nights; I've never been on a cruise before and was wondering what I'll be letting myself in for (basically I'm going for some sun and sights). Will the trips to the various temples/sights be rushed; I'm used to visiting sights etc on on my own etc. Also what about the food on the boat and are you able to get off the boat once it docks at various points on the Nile.
Also is it worth getting accomodation on the upper deck?
Many thanks
Robert

Last year my wife and I went on an Overseas Adventure Tours group tour to Jordan & Egypt which included a Nile cruise of about 4 days from Luxor to Aswan. The boat stopped at several ports along the way for shore excursions which were interesting and what we thought about the right length of time. The food on the boat was very satisfactory. Our cabin on a lower deck was OK, and would do the same if going again. For details of our Nile cruise see the "Jordan & Egypt" section of Our Travel Journals: www.evcal.org</a>

Cheers caldnj,
I was told that I wouln't get a good view if I stayed on the lower deck, I suppose it depends on the boat.....
Thanks for your reply, I'm looking forward to some sun as it's freezing in London :(

yes ..it will be great and the nile cruise is the best place where you can discover the nile river, the food is great ....your friend. the guide of egypt(the.pharaoh30@yahoo.com)

I went on a Nile cruise a few years back.
I had a lower deck cabin. This was no problem as most of the time everyone was out on deck getting the same (good) views.
Food was OK.
I'm not a fan of package holidays, and I disliked the pace at which we were taken round the various sites. I didn't like that you got put into a van to go as short a distance as 1km, nor that the coach back from the trip to the Valley of the Kings stopped for over an hour at a rip-off Alabaster "factory". Also that it wasn't really very clear what was going to happen when, and what tours were part of the itinerary and what were not. It wasn't really possible to leave the boat when it was tied up at places other than sites (though this wasn't very long) - sometimes the boats moor several abreast, and you'd have to walk through a number of other boats to get ashore.
If you like organised packages and being herded about, perhaps all these things will wash over you. If I went back to Upper Egypt I'd stay in Luxor and perhaps see if I could go in an overnight cruise in a felucca.

accommodation on top deck? probably not worth it. if you want to hang around for the view just sit on the top deck under shades and swimming pool, i wouldn't bother paying more for a room marginally higher than the others, you're not going to watch the bank from your room at any time of the day.
this is probably the only way to see egypt as part of a well organised tour.
