I am currently workin in malawi the land of no books bout egypt i did try to get one from uk but postal stike caused problems so here i am 4 weeks off my trip and still waitin for books to arive.... I am plannin on 4 weeks in egypt with my son aged 12. will be spend the first 5 days alone with my son and then will be joined by family for 5 days in cairo ova xmas and then off down to the coast prob sharma... I have done a little research time and interenet connections permittin. My problem is that i really have 10day to do as much as can avoiding cairo and red sea. My son is a travell addict and gets stuck into anything he desperate to do nite train and nite in dessert he also really wants 2 do nile cruise (as i) we want to fuit in luxor and if possible st catherines and sleep mt sinai...
We are used to doin it alone and deffo not green howeva we usually armed with the faithful LP guides and now feel lost.... any ideas of were to start, stay very welcome any must do trips most avoids so we at least have a basic plan wen we arrive and pref somewere to saty forst nite... tall order i know but would be very very grateful for advice..

Sorry was spose to say first 11 days with son so 10 days to do as much as possible avoidin read sea and cairo as doin later

I'm sure people will give you more info than this but I can tell you that the last postal strike in the UK was a few weeks ago and a settlement has (nearly) been reached so your LP guide may arrive in time depending on the Malawi end of things. Try going back through the posts on the Egypt pages on the Thorntree and you'll find lots of information. You want advice on a place to stay for the first night - ok - but where are you starting your trip?
