Guide for Egypt - can anyone recommend an excellent guide who knows the landscape and culture, as well as the history?

Can anyone recommend a professional, qualified local guide (English speaking) in Egypt who has extensive knowledge of the country, who knows the famous sites well, but who can also suggest and take me to places that most people don't go? I have very broad interests, so I want a guide who knows the best of the landscape as well as the places of historic interest, and who can also show me how people live in Egypt.

I enjoy hiking, swimming and other outdoor activities, so the guide needs to be one who includes these in trips he would suggest that I can do.

I am happy to stay in everything from hostel level to 5 star, I also enjoy camping, so the guide also needs to know the best options for all accommodation in each place in Egypt.

I don't want a guide who will give me a cookie-cutter tour, I want someone who will help me plan the tour and give advice on all the best things to include.

I can definitely recommend the guide we used in April. His name is Hassan Sayed. Check your private mail for a message from me that includes his email address as I don't want to put it in a public message.

Hassan lives in Luxor and is extremely knowledgeable about Egypt both ancient and modern. His university degree is in Egyptology.

His fees (him plus a car and driver) in the immediate Luxor area are extremely reasonable--significantly less than we paid for a guide in Egypt almost 30 years ago. Of course costs increase if you leave the general area and increase further when he cannot return home at night.

Except for the Red Sea resorts and hotel swimming pools I don't believe there are other swimming options in Egypt as the Nile and associated canals are, unfortunately, infested with the worms that cause schistosomiasis (a very serious disease).
