Trying to research airlines/fares online flying from Sydney to Cairo (preferably via BKK) and under $2000 including taxes. My frustration is having to go through muliple airfare search engines, some of which are so useless, I'm tearing my hair out by the roots. I want to look on the actual airline website. Is this not possible any more?
In my list of airlines to consider are:
Royal Jordanian
Korean
Etiard
Qatar
Any opinions/suggestions/advice.
I would be very grateful.

If you are in Aus, one thought is to go to a travel agent like Flight Centre which will have all of these fares at their fingertips (I'm going Sydney to Cairo with Etihad next month and got a good fare from FC).
Another thought - check out www.bestflights.com.au, which has heaps of fare combinations including routings out of Sydney to Cairo.
If you want to go via Bangkok, you can go British Airways to Sydney and then Royal Jordanian to Amman and on to Cairo BUT (a) last time I looked earlier this year the scheduling was pretty awful and (b) query whether you can get a fare for under $2000 including taxes. BA and RJ are both in the "one world alliance" so they may be able to do a deal on fares.....
Try kayak.com. It's a dogpile-style search engine. I put in random April dates and found $1800 US on ... Etihad Airlines? I think I remembered that right. It went via Abu Dhabi, direct from Sydney.
I agree with #1.
Everyone seems to have turned into strange beings these days who don't want to interact with other humans. Or else they assume everything must be cheaper on the internet.
Phone up an agent, give them your dates. Put your feet up and let them do the hard work!

I went to FlightCenter in Vancouver and they quoted $2100 last August. Found it for $1700 through CheapFlights.

i agree with hisurfer. i swear by Kayak.com - it is the best search engine out there and once it pulls up all the different flight options, you can link directly to the airline website to book (or to cheaptickets, orbitz, etc.). in my experience, travel agents RARELY are able to give you the best price on flights.
i just booked a tour to Egypt but booked the airfare myself because the airfare the travel agent was quoting me was $300 more than what i could find online myself.

Check http://www.travexnet.com, a good Bangkok travel agency. They list all of the choices and prices, so if you do try another agent or website, you know what's available. For instance, you could fly from Sydney to Ho Chi Minh and on to Bangkok with Vietnam Air for about US$ 350 one way. From there, Egypt Air has a round-trip to Cairo for about $450. I've flown the Cairo trip with them, and it was good, comfortable coach service. You should have a fair amount of your $2,000 left over.
