What is the best way to get form Cairo to Luxor? Is a tour the best option or should we go it alone?

Go by train either by day or night.
If you have time you could go by way of the western desert.
I hate the idea of tours and Egypt is so safe and easy so why not do it yourself.
Stay well.

Hi Sarah,

I did a private customized tour through Egypt 7000 back in April. I was there for 5 weeks and they did a great job for us at a reasonable price. If you decide to go the tour route, I'm sure they'd be happy to help you. To Simsy's point, Egypt is very safe, but even though I usually travel independently, I was glad that I used an agency for this trip.

Good luck!

I'm with Simsy, do your own thing, take the train and enjoy. It is very easy, a lot of fun and safe.

Or you could fly one way - since egyptair has reduced prices on their website to even less than the train fare.

Train by night or fly by day.

The train is far more of an experience, and far better for the environment.

By day, for just $10 a Cairo-Luxor air-con express will run you all the way down the Nile Valley.

By night, a sleeper for $55 saves you a hotel bill as well as an unnecessary flight, and probably takes less time out of your schedule than a flight.

www.seat61.com/Egypt.htm</a> has times, fares, photos and how to buy tickets for both daytime seats, overnight sleeper, and overnight seats options.
