Hi, Can anyone recommend an eco/adventuretour in Egypt. I will be there, insha Allah, in Jan. for at approx 3 weeks, although i havent booked a flight yet. I usually just go to places and figure things out when i get there, but i dont think that's wise in egypt since there is so much to see and everything seems spread out and i really am too busy now to plan this. i have never taken a tour and am generally not thrilled about the idea. i certainly don't want to be on a big bus and I don't care much for luxury. i would rather do something that involves camping and budget accomodation, without meals. I cant seem to find what i am looking for. i have searched the Internet and all the tours i have seen are too short or too long with numerous stops. what i am looking for is a slower paced tour, perhaps 20 days, but only in Egypt. One that incorporates diving in Red sea and a caravan would be my dream. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

We did the "Egypt Encompassed" tour with Oasis a few months ago. It is only fourteen days, but covers just about everything. It was our first tour and we really enjoyed the professionalism of the organization. We got to Cairo two days early and went to Alexandria on our own afterwards for a total of twenty one days in Egypt. That was enough! If you want more details on our experience, check out our travelpod blog. The entries are in May. www.travelpod.com, our blog is under itsgotime

Good luck.

Oh, one more thing. Some advice on Egypt we received our first day there that proved to be totally true. There is no such thing as a good samaritan Egyptian. Eventually there was always a sales pitch or an angle directed at your wallet. It is sad, but true.

Hi! I have to say that I am a little biased as I used to work for Oasis Overland, but in short it you will not find a better, more organised company to travel with,(although this obviously depends on your tour leader and other group members.)
You can extend the Egypt Encompassed to include an excursion into jordan for the extra few days or just stay in Dahab and do a bit of diving....check out their website www.oasisoveland.co.uk and see what you think.
Whatever you decide enjoy Egypt.

The simplest way is always to travel independantly in Egypt. Public buses go absolutely everywhere for a cheap price, and you'll meet independent travellers wherever you go.

"There is no such thing as a good samaritan Egyptian" : this is absolutely FALSE. Of course, if you book a tour with a company, 95% of the people you'll meet will be looking for your money because they'll see you as a tourist. As soon as you travel independantly, you'll be able to meet very nice people who are eager to offer tea in order to discuss with you. Egyptians are always thrilled to speak with Westerners. There's a huge tradition of hospitality in Egypt, but of course it won't apply if they see you coming with then other tourists in a bus and a guide escorting you...

I agree that that statement is absolutely false. I have met kind and generous Egyptians in my times there. I have had people refuse baksheesh when they've gone out of their way to help me and people who've welcomed me into their homes and looked for nothing in return. Once you get past the touts, you will find an amazing culture and people.

Hey OP, PM me insha'Allah because I know of a great budget hotel that I won't put on the tree as I don't want it to become backpacker haven.
