Soon I'll be flying out to Egypt for 2 weeks and 5 days.
I'm flying to and back from Cairo and I'd like to travel down the nile, visiting Luxor, Aswan e.t.c, then maybe Hurghada on the way back. I was just wondering how much would I be able to see in Egypr in 19 days, which places would be good for me to visit on that route, roughly how long would I need in each place and how much money should I take in total?
Cheers

I just finished a trip to Egypt, around 3 weeks

- 5 days in Cairo
- morning train to Alexandria (2 hours)
- 2 days in Alexandria
- train from Alex to Cairo, then overnight to Aswan
- 4 days Aswan
- morning train to Luxor
- 4 days Luxor
- fly to Sharm el-Sheikh
- 4 days Dahab
- bus to Cairo (9 hours)
- 1 day in Cairo before flying out

You can see al lot.
Good luck,
Fritz

Consider something else than Hurghada. There are other places further south, supposed to be better, or just jump on a plane from Luxor to Sharm and make your way from there to Dahab or Nuweiba/Tarabin or any of the camps between Nuweiba and Taba.

I'd say a pretty typical estimate would be something like
Cairo: 3++ days
Aswan including Abu Simbel: 2-3 days.
A felluca trip with the sights: 2-3 days(?, someone with more experience, please fill in)
Luxor: 2++
days.

So if you cut the felluca you'll have plenty of time to go to Sinai, if not, maybe something on the western coast of the red sea.

Budget: I reckon 200-300 Egyptian punds to be my personal minimum when travelling, but others manage by less, depends on what you want.

Cool, thanks.
How much does it cost to fly from Luxor to Sharm? Also, what is Aexandria like?

Check Egypt Air, choose Egypt as your home country, you may book an electronical ticket. See the link below.

Alex is nice, a bit cold this time of the year. Check the below links for a cheap and good hotel and a suggested itenary (although, warnings be heeded, this one cuts out a lot of things many travelers often opt to see.).

That's plenty of time if you plan your trip proper. We saw pretty much most of Egypt in 13days.

This is our rough route, with Cairo as base:
Cairo – Aswan – Abu Simbel – Aswan – Luxor – Cairo – Alexandria – Cairo – Sinai – St Catherine – Sharm el-Sheikh – Cairo

Top 5 must do's:
– Abu Simbel (totally amazing and worth the extra flight)
– Nile Cruise
– Cairo Egyptian Museum
– Khan al-Khalili Bazaar
– Valley of the Kings

You can view my log for a better idea:

Cool, cheers for the info guys.
I'm on a slight budget so I'm not sure if a Nile cruise would be affordable?
Am I right in thinking that Abu Simbel is just a day trip from Aswan, you can't actually stay there? Can I book flights to Abu Simbel over there or can I get a boat or something?
