Hello,

I know this topic was just posted but I have different plans than the previous post. I am hoping to travel to Egypt Mid March and will 8 solid days to wander around. I do want to see some of the typical attractions but am having trouble narrowing it down. I do want to spend at least 2 days on the red sea maybe as much as 4. Will that be too much? I do want to see some attractions such as the pyramids, tombs etc but am mostly looking to relax and enjoy a nice vacation. Any suggestions for cities to travel over others as well as routes to take where I end up in Cairo for the last day to prep and relax before I fly back to the states will be greatly appreciated. Also any recommendations for hotels on a budget will help as well.
Thank you all.

Have you thought about visiting Petra, Jordan?

As far as attractions go, I rate pyramids first, then karnak then aswan. Since you want to spend time on the sinai, I recommend Giza for pyramids, then mt sinai while staying at dahab or where ever. I also recommend Petra. You can do a day trip, but I recommend at least 2 days.

Thanks for the info yall. What would be the best means of travel to Petra and would it be better to do that toward the end of the trip or the beginning so I can get the most out of the limited time I will have?

We are 2 Italians, We enjoyed so much our trip to Egypt, we were for 11 days (from 25th Jan to 3rd Feb)
The day we were in Cairo, co-incidentally was also the 2nd anniversary of the revolution

From the time we arrived at the airport till the time we were dropped off, we felt completely safe. Not only that - we had a great time, and are very glad we were able to spend that short time in the city.

We went to Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Kom Ombo, Edfu, Assuan(Nile Cruise), Abu Simbel.
Cairo is a very big city and the fighting was in one street in Tahrir Square as our guide told us in down down which you should avoid.

The Aswan to Luxor Nile cruise was absolutely wonderful, a trip of a lifetime. The service was first class. The guide there was also very helpful and together with the other tourists in our party we much enjoyed the history briefings, the discussions and the visits.

It was truly a wonderful experience.

For your 'side trip' to Jordan (Petra) I recommend that you have a look at Ruth's
Jordan Jubilee page at
